The dermis is the connective tissue layer of skin that lies beneath the epidermis and above the subcutaneous layer. It’s one of the three layers of our skin and when it’s constantly stretched, collagen production is interrupted and stretch marks are formed to heal the ruptured skin. They usually appear on the belly, breasts, lower back, thighs, hips and buttocks, during puberty, pregnancy, and rapid weight gain or loss. At their initial phase, stretch marks are red, pink or purple, followed by white or silver lines at their later phase.

It is important to note that those stretch marks that have passed their initial phase, are very difficult to get rid off naturally. However, they can be slightly improved. Red or purple stretch marks can be significantly reduced, if treated properly.

WHY YOU SHOULD USE EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL FOR STRETCH MARKS

There are tons of therapies for stretch marks but to be honest, none of them are 100% effective. In reality, it really depends on many factors such as the condition of your skin, its age and tone, and your diet. However, there are a few things you can do.

Extra virgin olive oil’s effectiveness on stretch marks has been debated for years. So, does it help with stretch marks or not? If you look at its nutrient composition, you’ll realize it has modest amounts of vitamins E, K and polyphenols. These play a very important role in skin protection and collagen production, which results in more elasticity in your skin. This prevents the formation of stretch marks and wrinkles, but it may reduce them as well. It will take time, but with constant applications, chances of them appearing in the first place, or even fading, become stronger. The best time to apply stretch mark treatments is during their formation. In pregnancy, that’s during the first months that the belly starts to grow.

Extra virgin olive oil has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and wound healing properties, but there are a few things you should consider. Applying extra virgin olive oil directly on the skin may not be the right choice for you if your skin is sensitive and prone to dryness, or if you have skin conditions such as eczema or atopic dermatitis, since that may aggravate them.

It’s recommended to use extra virgin olive oil along other skin nourishing ingredients. For better results, preheat your extra virgin olive oil and massage the area for a few minutes.

Here’s the two natural treatments with extra virgin olive oil that will significantly help:
