Kardamas Olive Oil Chocolate Muffins


The smell of freshly baked, homemade muffins is simply irresistible. The chocolate muffins we are making today, are not just another regular muffin proposal. They are wonderful, juicy and delicious muffins for your family and friends, made by you in just 10 minutes!

Of course, you can buy them and save all the trouble making them at home, but if you ask me, there is nothing compared to what your hands are making- let alone that homemade is much healthier than store bought.

This time, I decided to make my muffins a little bit more special. Instead of adding butter, margarine or some sunflower oil, I made olive Kardamas Olive Oil Chocolate Muffins.

The result is very interesting, because there is a slight suspicion of its aroma, without disturbing the muffins’ taste. Also, I have reached the conclusion that muffins and cakes remain much softer and moist when they are made with oil instead of margarine.

Apart from that, I used whole wheat flour instead of plain all-purpose flour and cane sugar. I also added pieces of dark chocolate, since dark chocolate is a powerful anti-oxidant.  Additionally, I added a little espresso coffee powder. Now I know what you must be thinking: “Coffee?? Why would I want coffee-flavored muffins?” Don’t worry. It is not going to make your muffins taste like coffee. It will only emphasise the taste of chocolate. Thus, it will make chocolate more chocolaty!

In short, it's a super-muffin.

Unlike all muffin recipes this one differs, because it combines the magic of chocolate- a powerful anti-oxidant- with the healthy benefits of extra virgin olive oil and the cute appearance of a muffin. Perfect.




·    3 large eggs

·    100 grams plain Greek yogurt

·    150 ml. milk (you can use almond or regular milk)

·    100 ml.  Kardamas extra virgin olive oil

·    200 grams unrefined cane sugar

·    Pinch of salt

·    1 tsp. instant or espresso coffee powder

·    200 grams whole wheat flour

·    80 grams unsweetened cocoa powder

·    2 tsp. baking powder

·    150 grams dark chocolate chips (you can either use white or milk chocolate chips)

·    1 tsp. vanilla extract


The recipe is very easy. The result is a pretty moist muffin that tastes great.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees and arrange the paper cups in a pan. Combine with a whisk all dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl. In a separate mixing bowl, combine all wet ingredients and whisk until you get a uniform mixture. Then, add the wet mixture to the dry and mix well until a viscous batter is formed.

Fill the paper cups with the muffin batter at about ¾ full. Bake the muffins for 15-25 minutes. Keep in mind that baking time mainly depends on the size of the baking cups you are using. An easy way to check if they are baked is by inserting a toothpick in the centre of the muffins and see if it comes out clean.

Cool for about 15 minutes at room temperature and serve.

You can store your Kardamas Olive Oil Chocolate Muffins in a closed container in the fridge for up to a week.
