A few words about Greek Olive Oil...

The olive trees have been grown in Greece since antiquity. For the ancient Greeks, an olive tree represented, among other things, peace and the Greeks appreciated it so much, to award the winners of the Ancient Olympics with an olive wreath!

Archaeological excavations in many areas have shown that olive oil was used extensively in ancient times and not only as food. Homer calls it "the golden liquid," and according to ancient texts it was used in cleanliness, perfume making, cosmetic care, medicine and lighting. Hippocrates, the renowned doctor of antiquity, used olive oil to treat his patients.

Today the olive tree is the most extensive cultivation in the country. Greece produces about 400,000 tonnes of olive oil per year. Thus, is the third largest olive oil producing country in the world. Cultivation conditions and olive oil production methods have not changed much over time. 80% of Greek production is of excellent quality and can be consumed immediately without any further processing. Greek virgin olive oil is a natural product, full of flavour, pleasant aroma and many nutritional properties.

Modern research has shown that olive oil has beneficial effects on our health. Its constant consumption protects against various heart and stomach diseases.

According to surveys, Greece is the country with the highest consumption of olive oil in the world. Greeks love the olive oil, which forms the basis of their daily diet.

Olive oil is used raw, in all salads, usually combined with lemon or vinegar. Two spoons of pure, virgin olive oil are enough for a great Greek salad.

Olive oil is also perfectly cooked with all kinds of vegetables such as beans, okra, peas and aubergines.

In addition, it is also suitable for making sweets and pastries. It is much better instead of using margarine or any other butter for sweets, tarts and sweet pies, to use olive oil. Just one cup, is enough for a chocolate cake!
